Comments
Recommended for listing by Andrew Saint in 1991. Now the outstanding early private-architect-designed board school. Handsomely remodelled with halls and bays at the back in 1900. In advanced Gothic taste by a prominent architect. Two chimneys cut down in front, fleche either lost or not built, but otherwise in remarkably good condition for its date. Currently part of the redevelopment of the adjacent secondary school (formerly Geoffrey Chaucer School), by Future Systems, which will also affect the listed pentagonal block from this originally 1950s school. Listing Description: Joseph Lancaster Primary School II Formerly known as: Harper Road School HARPER ROAD. Board school. Designed 1873, dated 1875. By RW Edis, architect. For the London School Board.
